It is important that parents be aware of their child's hearing.  A child's hearing can be affected by many things including heredity, medical diseases, medications, trauma, etc.  Young children may acquire a temporary or permanent hearing loss with repeated middle ear infections.  Older children may acquire a hearing loss with repeated exposure to loud noises including music. If you suspect your child has difficulty hearing, seek professional help immediately.  Screenings can be performed by the school system.  Another resource is Children's Rehabilitation Service in Montgomery, AL.  This is a state organization that provides assistance with hearing disorders-Contact 1-800-441-7607.
